Avaya offers both WiFi and DECT solutions to meet a variety of needs, allowing you to select the best choice for your needs.
An IP Office WiFi phone network offers a converged voice and data network, requiring maintenance of only a single network. WiFi handsets offer higher data bandwidth. However, with WiFi, handsets may be a more significant cost and require additional planning to ensure optimal voice quality and coverage, compared with DECT. Due to differences in the radios and algorithms, WiFi handsets also offer less standby/talk time when compared with DECT.
An IP Office DECT network offers a secure, dedicated voice-only network in an assigned frequency band to minimize or eliminate interference. It also requires significantly less planning and is consequently more easily scalable. DECT handsets tend to be low-cost. However, since it is optimized for voice, DECT offers lower data bandwidth to the handsets making it appropriate for basic, text-based applications. DECT requires installing and maintaining a separate wireless network. DECT should be considered for environments containing many other types of wireless devices, such as RFID equipment or scanners, which may interfere with each other.
The IP Office 3600 Range leverages the Avaya Voice Priority Processor and the Open Application Interface server, and are compatible with 802.11a, b, and g networks. These are primarily for office (clean) environments
Telefonix Voice & Data do not 3600 Series phone installation unless a thorough and complete site survey has been performed. Unlike other telecoms specialists Telefonix Voice & data does not charge you for this survey and it will not be part of your proposal cost. Most wireless phone audio problems have to do with access point range, positioning and capacity. Performing a site survey can isolate the access point causing these types of problems. If the wireless phone itself is suspected, we will conduct a parallel site survey with a wireless phone that is known to be properly functioning. The following are the most common problems encountered which would be revealed by a thorough site survey. The following are examples of issues that Telefonix have come across and resolved for our customers:
Service will be disrupted if a user moves outside the area covered by the wireless access points. Service is restored if the user moves back within range. If a call drops because a user moves out of range, the wireless phone will recover the call if the user moves back into range within a few seconds.
In areas of heavy use, the call capacity of a particular access point may be filled. If this happens, the user will hear three chirps from the wireless phone. The user can wait until another user terminates a call, or move within range of another access point and try the call again. If a user is on a call and moves into an area where capacity is full, the system attempts to find another access point. Due to range limitations, this may be the same as moving out of range.
Prior to system installation, the best location for access points for optimum transmission coverage was determined. However, small pockets of obstruction may still be present, or obstructions may be introduced into the facility after system installation. This loss of service can be restored by moving out of the obstructed area, or by adding access points.
