ADSL

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a type of Digital Subscriber Line technology, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional voiceband modem can provide. ADSL is an always-on Internet connectivity service, and is up to 40 times faster than a 56k Modem. It does this by using frequencies that are not used by a voice telephone call. A splitter, or DSL filter, allows a single telephone connection to be used for both ADSL service and voice calls at the same time. ADSL can generally only be distributed over short distances from the central office, typically less than 3 miles, but has been known to exceed 5 miles if the originally laid wire gauge allows for further distribution.

Why Upgrade to ADSL?

  • Speed: ADSL provides high-speed digital access to the Internet using your existing telephone line with quicker download speeds than dialup and up to 8Mb bandwidth
  • Online 24/7: no need to waste time obtaining a dial-up connection - 24 hour permanent connection at fixed costs saving you time and money
  • Flexibility: ADSL does not affect your normal telephone line, so your staff can upload documents, download data, fax and phone at the same time

Telefonix Voice & Data ADSL

Telefonix Voice & Data now do two ADSL packages: one designed for offices (with a better contention ratio) and one designed for the remote worker working at home.

How can I find out if ADSL is available?

Telephone us on 01252 333888 and tell us your postcode and telephone number. We will then be able to inform you if it is available to you. To be able to receive ADSL, your local BT telephone exchange will need to be one of the 90% of exchanges that have been upgraded. You will need to be within 3 miles of your exchange depending on which version of ADSL you would like.
